CS Executive is the second level of the Company Secretary (CS) course conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). It consists of 7 papers across 2 Modules and is a stepping stone toward CS Professional.
CS Executive has 2 Modules — Module I (4 papers) and Module II (3 papers), totalling 7 papers. Students can appear for one module or both modules in an attempt.
Module I: Jurisprudence Interpretation & General Laws (JIGL), Company Law & Practice (CLAW), Setting Up of Business, Industrial & Labour Laws (SBIL), Corporate Accounting & Financial Management (CAFM). Module II: Capital Market & Securities Laws (CMSL), Economic, Commercial & Intellectual Property Laws (ECIL), Tax Laws & Practice (TAX).
CS Executive (New 2022 Syllabus) consists of 7 papers across 2 modules. Each paper is 100 marks (3-hour duration). Module I has 4 papers (400 marks), Module II has 3 papers (300 marks) — total 700 marks. Exam format: 20% case-based objective + 80% descriptive questions across all papers (except Paper 4 — Corporate Accounting & Financial Management — which is 100% descriptive). Exams are conducted in offline centre-based mode.
You can register for CS Executive through 2 routes: (1) CSEET Route — Pass the CS Executive Entrance Test (CSEET). (2) Direct Entry Route — Graduates/Post-Graduates (any stream, minimum 50%), CA Final pass, CMA Final pass, or students in the final year of Graduation (provisional registration) are exempt from CSEET.
Registration is done online through the ICSI student portal. You need to fill the application form, submit required documents, and pay the official ICSI registration & exam fees.
ICSI conducts CS Executive exams twice a year — in June and December. YES Academy batches are aligned for both June '26 and December '26 attempts.

Pass Criteria: Minimum 40% marks in each paper + 50% aggregate per module.

A qualified CS is a statutory professional required under the Companies Act 2013 for every listed company. Career roles include Company Secretary, Compliance Officer, Legal Advisor, Corporate Governance Manager, Board Secretary, M&A Consultant, and more. CS is recognised by SEBI, MCA, FEMA & ICSI.

Salary range (2026):
• Freshers: ₹4-10 LPA
• Mid-level (3-5 yrs exp): ₹10-20 LPA
• Senior CS in listed companies: ₹25-50 LPA
• KMPs & CS of large listed companies: ₹1 Crore+ annually
ICSI has fully transitioned to the New 2022 Syllabus from December 2025 onwards. Key differences: (1) Paper count reduced from 8 to 7 — Module II has 3 papers (was 4). (2) Restructured modules with combined subjects (e.g. SBIL combines Setting up of Business + Industrial & Labour Laws). (3) New format: 20% case-based MCQ + 80% descriptive (vs old purely descriptive). (4) Aligned with modern corporate governance & digital compliance frameworks. All new YES Academy batches follow the 2022 syllabus.
